Director's Statement:

More than about building a wooden ship, the film is about the volunteers themselves, who over three years have bonded into a family. To film a family, you have to join it. Filming commenced in 2012 with the building of a temporary tent shipyard and tree felling - and finished late 2014 with the completion of the ship's deck and transom. I am still shooting building progress. Sadly since Episode One 'From Stem to Stern', our 82 year old barista and photographer, Ed, has died. We, his remaining family, miss him badly.

The ship is expected to be launched in 2017 and an Episode Two 'We are Sailing' is planned This film is a labor of love. I am part of the ship's volunteer family. I know all their names and background stories. When I had heart surgery they all sent me 'get well' cards and several visited my home. That doesn't happen on a corporate video for a paint company. Any money made from screening or TV sales will be donated to the building of the ship.
