Description: Playing Sherds is a historical short film which tells the true story of the filmmaker's great grandmother, who lived during World War II.
The story is about a happily married couple up to the harsh time of World War II when their marriage breaks down (fails) because of the painful loss of their oldest son. As an old lady, Lisette reflects on her marriage with Peter and on the desperation that was caused by the cruel war and the death of her son. Peter is now living opposite in her neighborhood, and they are watching themselves secretly but donít exchange any word.
Their common grandchild tries to mediate between the two. Peter remembers an old porcelain figure, he once gave to Lisette as a gift in the night of their marriage. The porcelain figure got broken during a dispute with Lisette, but Peter collected the sherds and stowed them in his house. Now he tries to fix the figure in the hope to reconcile before he is dying.
