Soundbreaker |
Year: 2011Running Time: 88 minutes Country: Finland Genre: Documentary Venue: Playhouse Theater, 40 Main Street, Tiburon Cast: Kimmo Pohjonen Showtime: Monday, April 23, 2012 @ 05:10 PM Director: Kimmo Koskela Description: Accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen has created a unique style of his own. The new music film Soundbreaker shows what’s it’s all about. In the film’s documentary parts the focus is in Pohjonen’s Earth Machine Music project when Pohjonen spend time in the UK on a farm recording sounds of different machines that he later used to compose music from. Extraordinary sounds of bellows, animals and machines come out of his instrument. Adding his own voice and string instruments, he bridges the gap between experimental, rock, folk and classic genres. His performances are reminiscent of the violence of Roman gladiators and the castigation of medieval monks. The film is a journey of an exceptional artist grounded in basic human truths. The Cinematography and drama reveal a distinctive Scandinavian viewpoint. From the startling opening - the hero walks across an expanse of ice and drops through a hole into frigid water - right to the very end, a dramatic pace draws the viewer in, revealing the inner struggle of this iconoclast. Screening with: Nazi Goreng - Winner of Montreal / Canada at the International Festival for Films on Art "Prix de la Création / Award for Creativity" |
