Description: [Screening @ the Tiburon Film Society]
LULU is the second feature film of Dutch filmmakers Maartje Seyferth & Victor Nieuwenhuijs, after their first highly acclaimed erotic classic Venus in Furs, inspired by the famous play of Frank Wedekind, a moving story of melancholic love and the primal urge of survival told in a personal visual style .
Leon Mortier, a wealthy publisher in his fifties, stops his car when he sees Lulu walking down a long narrow road in a forest. She gets in and he is instantly captivated. When he pulls away, a man suddenly appears before the car and is apparently hit. Leon decides to take the man as well as Lulu home with him. Luluís behaviour is unpredictable and Leon becomes more and more obsessed with his new young love. Whisky and cocaine add to make him increasingly suspicious and paranoid about her behaviour. While throwing a dinner party for some of his friends who he suspects of being unfaithful with her, Leon confronts them with their treachery and expels them from his life. When he discovers his son in the arms of Lulu, he decides also to get rid of her, a plan that backfires in a most dramatic and unexpected way.
