Description:
The initial idea was simple: to ask 25 film-makers from the 25 member states of the European Union to make a film in which they would convey their vision of life in their country. The film should be set in the present or the near future, should be five minutes long, and each would be made for the same budget.

Beyond this, there were no restrictions, and each film-maker would be granted freedom of expression. The list of film-makers who responded reads like a wish list of Festival favourites, and includes both extremely established directors and distinctive newer voices. The joy of a project like this is twofold: firstly, each short film has its own identity and signature, and these make for fascinating comparisons; but secondly there is the cumulative effect, mapping the Community through the assembly and juxtaposition of it's conceptual and creative visions.
