Fernando Meirelles & Katia Lund
In 1989-1990, Fernando Meirelles created and directed the children´s series Rá-Tim-Bum, for the public TV network. Those 180 programs received the Gold Medal in the New York Film and TV Festival, besides other prizes. From television he went on to advertising films. In that activity he was awarded the most important national and international prizes, as five Cannes´Lions, Clios, nine Professionals of the Year, and many others. In 1997 he directed his first feature film, O Menino Maluquinho (Crazy Kid), with Fabrizia Pinto. Also in 2000 he was invited by Guel Arraes, from Rede Globo to participate at the project “Brava Gente Brasileira”, directing the episode PALACE II [GOLDEN GATE], adaptation from the best selling novel “Cidade de Deus” (“God’s Town”), by Paulo Lins. PALACE II [GOLDEN GATE] was transformed in a short film and it was awarded the Best Short Film at the Panorama Section of 2002 Berlinale, among others. In 2001 followed his second feature DOMESTICAS [MAIDS], with the director Nando Olival, which had the participation of the Hubert Balls Fund for Post-Production and Distribution and was selected for the Tiger Award competition - International Film Festival Rotterdam 2001. In 2002 he’s finished his new feature film, CIDADE DE DEUS [CITY OF GOD], a co-production with Walter Salles´ VideoFilmes CENTRAL STATION [CENTRAL DO BRASIL]. CIDADE DE DEUS [CITY OF GOD] is also an adaptation from the best selling novel CIDADE DE DEUS, by Paulo Lins and had its first screening at the Oficial Selection of 2002 Cannes Film Festival.

Katia Lund is a Magna-Cum-Laude graduate of Brown University. Having completed her studies in 1989, Katia returned to Brazil, her country of birth, and iniciated a career as assistant director on twelve feature films and over 400 commercials shot in Brazil, Europe, Africa and the United States. She began with a Saul Zaentz production in 1990, At Play in the Fields of the Lord and ended with Central Station (1998, Sony Classics) and I,You,They (1999, Sony Classics). In 1997, Katia began researching and directing News From a Private War with João Salles. Katia then began directing music videos for MTV and cable TV exhibition. In 2000 she directed the short film “Golden Gate” (“Palace II”) with Fernando Meirelles. In 2001 she begun working with Fernando Meirelles in the feature film “Cidade de Deus” (“God´s Town”). She´s a co-director of the film.
