Sheila Sofian
Sheila M. Sofian’s films are a hybrid of documentary and animation. Sofian received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film and Animation at the Rhode Island School of Design and her Master of Fine Arts in Experimental Animation from the California Institute of the Arts. Sofian recently received a Guggenheim Fellowship for work on her upcoming film, “Truth Has Fallen.”

Sofian has received grants from the Roy W. Dean Film Grant, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Women in Film Foundation and the Pew Fellowships in the Arts, as well as a residency at the MacDowell Colony.

Her freelance work includes animation for the feature film “Closetland,” MTV, and titles for the feature film “10 Things I hate About You.” Her award-winning films have been shown at the International Festival of Non-Professional Cinema in France, the Hampton’s International Film Festival, the Chicago International Film Festival, the Cork Film Festival in Ireland, the Zagreb World Festival of Animated Film and the Festival of Animated Film in Stuttgart, Germany, among others.

Her films have been televised on WHYY’s “Independent Images,” WYBE’s “Through the Lens” and WTTW’s “Images Union.” She is currently Chair of the Animation Program at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California.
