Richard Karz
Richard Karz is the producer/director of the feature documentary, “9/11/03: A Day in the Life of New York,” which was completed in September of 2005. “9/11/03” documents the lives of New Yorkers on the second anniversary of 9/11 as a portrait of New York City and the nation in the post-9/11 era and what we have been learning about ourselves in the wake of 9/11. Featured participants in the film include the novelist Salman Rushdie, Yankees Manager Joe Torre, Reverend Al Sharpton, hip-hop media mogul Russell Simmons, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, the Council on Foreign Relations Chairman Peter Peterson, NYU President John Sexton, Iranian-born artist/filmmaker Shirin Neshat, TV reporter Ti-Hua Chang, and Newsweek columnist Fareed Zakaria.

“9/11/03” has been called “Striking... Fascinating” by the New York Times, “Dynamic” by New York Magazine, “Ambitious” by Time Out New York, and “A kaleidoscopic portrait of New Yorkers high and low” by TV Guide online.

Karz is also the producer/director of "If Women Ruled the World: A Washington Dinner Party," a two-hour documentary that premiered on Capitol Hill and was released nationally by PBS. The film explores the repercussions of women’s empowerment and the obstacles impeding full gender equity. It features an unprecedented roster of women trailblazers, including Sondra Day O’Connor, General Claudia Kennedy, Jane Goodall, university president Ruth Simmons, Betty Friedan, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Sheriff Frances Kaiser, and Canada’s first and only female prime minister, Kim Campbell, among many others. School Library Journal called “If Women Ruled the World,” “Powerful… thought-provoking… fascinating… historic.”
