Liza Key is the director of SCRAWL, a laboratory for South African screenwriters run annually in Cape Town in association with the Sundance Institute.

In 1999 she directed and produced A Question of Madness, documentary on the life of Dimitri Tsafendas the man who assassinated S African Prime minister H. Verwoerd.

She has researched and produced several programmes for BBC4. She directed The Man Who Knew Too Much, a documentary on Wouter Basson, screened at IDFA and many other international festivals.
