Rade Serbedzija & Danilo Šerbedžija
Rade Šerbedžija is one of the most famous Croatian actors. He was the Hamlet of his generation in 1974. Dubrovnik. He played many significant theatre roles including Hamlet, Richard III, Peer Gunt, Melkior, Leon Glembaj, to name just a few. He participated in over 170 feature films, in most of them as a leading role. Out of numerous films in ex-Yugoslavia and Croatia, the most important are the roles in Živojin Pavlovic’s Crveno klasje, Zadah tela, Dezerter, Bravo Maestro (Gold Arena for best male performance), San o ruži (Gold Arena for best male performance), Kuvanski put, Kiklop, Večernja zvona (Gold Arena for best male performance), Variola Vera, Život je lep, 72 dana (Gold Arena for best male performance).
After Milcho Manchevski’s film "Before the Rain” that won the award of Venice Film Festival, his international career thrives. Rade played in films directed by some of the most famous world directors including Eyes wide Shut by Stanley Kubrick, The Truce directed by Francesco Rosi, The Saint by Philip Noyce, Mission Impossible directed by John Woo, The Snatch by Guy Ritchie… He directed his first film “Osloboduvanje na Skopje” aka The Liberation of Skopje together with his son Danilo Šerbedžija.
Danilo Šerbedžija was born on 28.4.1971. in Zagreb. He graduated Philosophy and Greek Language and Literature on The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. He finished Ohio University School’s Film Graduate Program in the class of Rajko Grlić. His first feature film “Seventy-two days” won 3 Gold Arenas and Golden Gate award for the best film by the festival audience on Pula Film Festival 2010. (biggest national film festival). The film was also shown on 20 film festivals worldwide, gaining several awards.
In 2015. Danilo directed a short film “Orah”, one of the segments in omnibus “Zagreb’s story”. The same year, alongside his father Rade Šerbedžija, he co-directed “The Liberation of Skopje”. He is currently in pre-production of his next feature film “Tereza 33”. Apart from film, he is actively engaged in music.
