John Slattery’s first feature directing debut, Casablanca Mon Amour (featured in the New York Times) had its world premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival and continues to play at festivals worldwide.
While studying directing and cinematography at UCLA he received the Kenneth Macgowan Award for Excellence in Filmmaking, the Joseph Drown Award for Motion Picture Production as well as the Edgar Brokaw Scholarship in Film Production - and even worked as an assistant to Isabelle Huppert.
John also worked in the UCLA Dept. of Film, Television as a teaching assistant and editor to Marina Goldovskaya, one of Russia’s best known documentary filmmakers.
John has photographed as a DP for a number of documentaries as well as Parthanabe, which went won an Emmy® Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Professionally John has collaborated with a broad range of talented producers, DP’s and organizations on a number of short and full-length films, and TV shows, including: two-time Academy Award ® winning Cinematographer Haskell Wexler ASC, PBS/WNET American Masters, and MTV.
John’s latest film in post-production, an experimental documentary exploring homelessness and Chicago Soul music, was selected by BAVC’s 4x10 preview program.
He holds an MFA from the Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
