Born in Rome, Michela Occhipinti moves to Milan in 1991 and then to London, where she starts working in documentary and advertising production as a researcher and production assistant. Since 1995 she has been living in Rome and working in cinema, documentaries and advertising covering various positions in production, direction and casting for national and international productions in Italy and abroad.
In 2003 she travels throughout South America where she independently produces and films her first work: “ˇViva la Pepa! (give us back the Constitution)”, a documentary on Argentina’s social crisis. (Romadocfest 2005; Tekfestival 2006: Special Jury Mention; "Cinema for Rights", Maori TV, RAI 1 30’ version).
From 2005 to 2007 she cooperates with RAI 2 for the programme "Un Mondo a Colori" directing various reportage on immigration issues. In 2008 she directs "Sei Uno Nero" (www.seiunonero.it) a non-profit documentary shot in Malawi on the opening of a radio station for Aids and malaria prevention.
"Letters from the desert" (Eulogy to slowness) is her first feature length documentary.
