Rainer Kaufmann was born June 6, 1959 in Frankfurt/Main. He studied German and film studies at Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main.
From 1983 to 1990 he graduated in directing at the University of
Television and Film Munich. Already in his 8 minutes short film
“Salz für das Leben” (1989) Katja Riemann took over the leading
part, just as she did in Kaufmann’s cinema successes “Stadtgespräch” (1995) and “Die Apothekerin” (1997).
Kaufmann also effectually works for television. Being the director for
example of “Die Kirschenkönigin” (2004), “Bella Block – Blackout” or “Ein fliehendes Pferd” (both 2007).
Amongst various awards, Kaufmann received the “Europäischer Fernsehpreis”, the “Max-Ophüls-Preis” as well as the “Adolf-Grimme-Preis”.
Rainer Kaufmann does not only work as director but also as author,
producer and actor.
