Jean-Philippe Masson
After a year at art school in Caen, Jean-Philippe Masson, who was born in Rennes in 1960, self-published a fanzine that soon attracted attention despite its small circulation, Le Journal de Placid et Muzo, with his friend Placid. His pseudonym stuck. He did artwork for a wide range of newspapers and magazines (Hara Kiri, Libération, Actuel, Métal Hurlant, Le Magazine littéraire and Le Monde in France; Raw in the United States, Vanity in Italy, Humo in Belgium).

He is a painter and engraver, and has organised regular exhibitions of his work in France and abroad since 1983. In 1989 and 1990, he worked with Kiki Picasso and directed animated films for television. In 1992 he took up the new challenge of children’s literature and has since then written and illustrated twenty-odd books including a series with a young witch heroine called Amanda Crapota published by Editions Autrement, which is soon to be released as a cartoon film.
