Olaf Saumer was born in Kassel, Germany in 1976. After having successfully completed an apprenticeship in a company and after having taken a degree in administration and economics he went on to study film directing at the Department of Visual Communication at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. His first short, called Stille Wasser (Silent Waters) is a dreamy musical-comedy. Olaf Saumer's recent short film Kleine Annabelle (Little Annabelle) was widely acclaimed within the German film community resulting in a successful festival run and was awarded the top rating of Besonders Wertvoll at the renowned nationwide film rating agency Deutsche Film- und Medienbewertung FBW.
Apart from that, Kleine Annabelle was shown on German Television on the Bayerischer Rundfunk channel in 2009. In all of his films so far, Olaf Saumer was, aside from directing, also responsible for writing, producing, and editing. His thesis film Suicide Club is his first feature length film that won the acclaimed prize Interfilmpreis at the 2010 Max Ophuels Preis Festival in Saarbruecken, Germany.
