Stu Maddux is a freelance producer/director, writer, editor and cinematographer with national credits who has become a multi-award winning documentary filmmaker. He is a “have-camera-will-travel” kind of guy creating films that include the critically-acclaimed Bob and Jack’s 52-Year Adventure about an Army sergeant who began an affair with his commanding officer in 1952. The two men came out to the troops in their unit and are still together a half-century later.
His most recent documentary, Trip To Hell And Back, is about a famous horse rider who reveals for the first time his secret life as a high-stakes crystal-methamphetamine dealer. The film won Grand Prize for Short Documentary at it’s premiere during the Rhode Island Intl. Film Festival.
His work has been televised internationally. Chances are you’ve seen it on Showtime, BBC or The Learning Channel to name a few. It has screened at more than 40 film festivals winning top honors at a handful of those. His company MAD STU Productions self-distributes his films in theaters and on DVD. Prior to independent filmmaking Maddux was a supervising producer creating programming for national networks including NBC, VH-1 and TLC.
He began his career as a television reporter/anchor in Nashville, Tennessee where he won six regional Emmies. Maddux has a Bachelors of Journalism from the University of Missouri and speaks frequently on story writing and documentary filmmaking.
