Ryszard Bugajski
Ryszard Bugajski – writer, screenwriter, film and TV director. Born in 1943 in Warsaw. He studied philosophy at Warsaw University and directing at Lodz Film School. From 1975 he was a member of Andrzej Wajda’s Film Studio “X” until its demise in 1983. In 1981 he made a feature film INTERROGATION (Przesłuchanie) which prompted the authorities to disband Studio “X”. Bugajski was fired from his job in the Studio and the film itself was banned for seven years. Persecuted by the authorities, in 1985 he emigrated to Canada, where he directed several episodic television shows and the theatrical feature “Clearcut”. He returned to Poland in 1997, where he now directs feature films, documentaries, and television series. He published three novels, “Interrogation”, “I Plead Guilty”, and “Salt & Pepper”. His new book “How ‘Interrogation’ Was Made” is due to appear next year.
