Lírio Ferreira
Directed Baile Perfumado (1996) with Paulo Caldas, a biography of Benjamim Abrahão, the only person ever to film the Bonnie and Clyde-like bandit Lampião and his infamous Maria Bonita. The film, considered one of the revelations of the new generation of Brazilian filmmakers that emerged in the 90´s, was awarded Best Film, Production Design and Best Supporting Actor in the Brasilia Festival of Brazilian Cinema. Baile Perfumado was also awarded Best Music and Supporting Actor in the São Paulo Association of Art Critics Awards.

Born in Pernambuco, Lírio Ferreira directed the short film O Crime da Imagem (1994), That's A Lero Lero (1995), and Assombrações do Recife Velho (2000), in a co-direction with Cláudio Barroso and Adelina Pontual and also wrote the script of the short film Cha’ (1994), directed by his friend Paulo Caldas.

Lírio Ferreira directed and wrote video clips for several artists. In 2005, Árido Movie, his second film, was selected for the Horizons showcase at the Venice Film Festival and opened in Brazil at the Rio de Janeiro Intl’ Film Festival. In the following year, the movie participated in the 10th Cine Pernambuco, where it was awarded best movie, direction, supporting actor (Selton Mello), cinematography, editing and best direction. In the 10th Festival of Miami, the film also won the best director award.

In 2007, he launched the cine-biography Cartola in partnership with Hilton Lacerda, awardwinning writer of Arid Movie (2004) and Amarelo Manga (2002).
