Ravin Asaf
Ravin Asaf was born on May 25th, 1957 in Kurdistan, Iraq. In 1976, he began his studies at the Film Academy in Baghdad. Nine years after Ravin Asaf graduated, he emigrated to Germany, where he began to study Visual Communications at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. Since 1994 he has worked as a producer as well as a freelance journalist for various European TV-channels focusing on Kurdistan and Iraq.

Ravin Asaf´s last feature film Yellow Days for which he was also nominated for the Max Ophüls Award has already caused a stir. Shortly before the first presentation in Istanbul the film was banned from the festival and a few days later it got banned for the entire country by the Turkish Censorship of Publications Board. Reasons have never been given. However, since 2004 Ravin Asaf has been working on his latest feature film The Smell of Apples that was mainly shot on original locations in Kurdistan, Iraq.
