Sandra Schäfer & Elfe Brandenburger
Sandra Schafer, the filmmaker and curator of film programmes lives and works in Berlin. She studied art. politics and sociology in Kassel, London and Karlsruhe. Sandra Schafer has visited Kabul and Tehran frequently since November 2002 to do research with Effe Brandenburger for the film Passing the Rainbow and the film festival Kabul/Teheran: 1979ff. In 2007 she curated the film festival SPLICE IN, on gender and politics in Afghanistan, its neighbors and Europe, which took place in Kassel. Berlin and Hamburg.
In 2008 the festival continued in Kabul under the title SECOND TAKE, in cooperation with CACA-Kabul, Afghan Film and Zara Zandieh. Schafer also coedited Kabul/Teheran 1979ff: Filmlandschaften, Stadte unter Stress und Migration (Film Landscapes, Cities under Stress and Migration), a metroZone book published in 2006 by b_books-Veriag in Berlin.
The filmmaker studied sociology, psychology and media design in Bielefeld and Munich. Till mid eighties she was employed in Bavarian Television as assistant researcher, working for several years on a documentary film series about comparative culturally specific approaches to raising children. As a member of the artist group minimal club she realized till mid nineties numerous projects in fields of video art, performance and theatre.
She lives in Berlin as a free lance film-maker and also works as film editor in art and installation projects as well as women's documentary films. Since five years she has been dealing with the production of 15-episode fictional docu-soap Le PingPong d'Amour. a group project that draws upon, theorizes and stages the visual and political contestations of Nouvelle Vague.
