Pontus Lidberg, is a young Swedish choreographer and director from Stockholm who has recently embarked on an international career. One of his latest work is the dance film "The Rain" for which he received an honorary mention at the Gothenburg International Film Festival in 2007 as well "Best Film" and "Best Cinematography" at the London International Dance Film Festival 2007. Other recent works include “Light in a Night’s Coat” for the Norwegian National Ballet, Oslo and "Heart of Silk" for the Vietnam National Ballet, Hanoi.
His sensitive and precise style of movement has a highly developed musicality, clearly expressed in the full length work “Duet for Dancer and Pianist”, in collaboration with concert pianist Magnus Svensson. His works are infused by a strong sense of aesthetics and although they bear traces of classical ballet, they are innovative with an unconventional personal touch. In 2003, he was commissioned to create a short dance film for Swedish National Television. The result "Mirror" was aired the first time on October 31st, 2003 and has also been screened at the Dance on Camera Festival in New York as well as various other international film festivals. Among other works, he has created pieces for the main auditorium at Kulturhuset, Stockholm, as well as works for 59° North, Soloists of the Royal Swedish Ballet, notably “a step down from grace”.
In 2002 he created a new chamber version of Petruschka, at the Dance Museum in Stockholm. He also created a new version of ”l’après midi d’un faune” for the Nijinski exhibition at the Dance Museum in 2000. He received the NOKIA Award for young talent in 2001, and the Stockholm Cultural Scholarship, also in 2001.
Pontus Lidberg was trained at the Royal Swedish Ballet School in Stockholm, Sweden. Among other international dance companies, he has danced with The Royal Swedish Ballet, Stockholm, the Norwegian National Ballet, Oslo, and the Gothenburg Ballet.
