Bogdan George Apetri
Bogdan George Apetri is a Romanian filmmaker born on February 2, 1976 in Piatra Neamt, a small city in the northern part of the country. He spent his entire childhood and a good part of his teenage years under the tough dictatorship imposed by Ceausescu’s communist regime.

Before starting out in cinema, Bogdan first earned a Law Degree and a Master Degree in International Private Law in Romania, his native country. He went on to practice for two years as a Criminal Defense Attorney before following his true call - film directing.

In 2000, he single-handedly wrote, produced and directed the medium-feature film “Alex and Eliza”, which was aired nationally by the Romanian Television. Following this achievement, Bogdan moved to the US to enroll in the prestigious Graduate Film Department at Columbia University in New York.

At Columbia, Bogdan wrote and directed a number of short films which were selected by many important festivals across the world, earning him a Student Oscar (Academy Awards) nomination in 2006. His directing work screened successfully in Rotterdam, Clermont-Ferrand, Palm Springs, Montreal, Edinburgh, Cottbus, Paris, Prague, Los Angeles, Beijing and many other places, winning several prizes in the process.

A director deeply interested in all areas of filmmaking, Bogdan also enjoyed working as a cinematographer, editor and sound designer. In these capacities, he collaborated on a variety of challenging projects, from shorts selected at Sundance to documentaries shot in US and Europe. Through THE EAST COMPANY, he co-produced the 35mm feature film “The Night When Angel Died”, shot in New York, on which he acted as the director of photography as well. He graduated from Columbia with a dual Master of Fine Arts Degree, in Film Directing and Cinematography.
