Klaudia Kovacs & Endre Hules
FILMMAKER/PRODUCER-DIRECTOR-WRITER Klaudia Kovacs was born in Eger, Hungary. Her mother was a college World and European champion and Olympic swimmer. Klaudia Kovacs lost both her parents by age 6. She came to the US at age 18 with $200 and without knowing anyone or speaking English. She has worked in the field of entertainment as a producer, actress, and writer for over a decade. She is the co-founder of two production companies specializing in documentaries and educational films.
The film In-Between, in which she starred, was selected for the 53rd Cannes Film Festival's Univers Elle 2000 program. Klaudia Kovacs has garnered several awards as an actress, most recently the Spotlight On Festival Award in New York for her star turn in The Insanity of Mary Girard. She also co-authored two Hungarian-language books and has been a Hollywood correspondent for various cultural magazines and publications. Klaudia Kovacs faced significant hurdles in completing Torn from the Flag, including the death of one main character; hence it took her 9 years to complete it. It is her directorial debut, as well as her first feature as a producer and writer. Klaudia Kovacs is an advocate for the empowerment of orphan children.
WRITER-DIRECTOR Endre Hules, born in Budapest, Hungary, lost his father to the Communist regime. Before Mr. Hulesís expulsion from Hungary, he was a director with the Hungarian National Theater, and then went on to direct at the Biennale de Paris, the Williamstown Theater Festival, the Shakespeare World Congress, and many other venues. His plays and screenplays have been produced around the world. His feature screenplay Prima Primavera is currently shooting in Europe, and he is slated to direct The Maiden Danced to Death next summer. He also appeared as an actor in close to a hundred films and television shows, and is a recipient of four MediaPlus Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Award, among many others. He has taught writers, directors, and actors at institutions such as NYU, USC, Bard College, Smith College, Espace Acteur, and at master classes on three continents.
